Navigating Vietnam is an exciting multi-cultural collaboration between VFA and the Community Learning Center at Van Asselt Elementary, serving over 70 students. The goals of the programs include:
- Vietnamese students will develop a greater awareness and appreciation of their culture
- Non-Vietnamese students will have a broader understanding of culture, not only Vietnamese topics but also are able to draw parallels and points of contrast with their own cultural and educational heritage.
- All students will engage in using and developing skills in literacy and math
About once a month, on a Friday afternoon, a team of VFA staff will work together with staff from the CLC to conduct workshops for Van Asselt students. They develop skills in math, literacy, teamwork, and other subject, through the lens of Vietnamese culture. Activities are designed to be engaging and a chance for students to learn about and share each other’s cultures. Here’s an example of a typical NAVN activity.
