Job Opening: Vietnamese After-School Program Director

Summary: The Vietnamese Friendship Association, a 501(c)(3), works to empower the Vietnamese community to succeed while bridging cultures. We are located in the Southeast district at the Othello Station on the Link Light Rail. We serve youth and families, primarily low-income Vietnamese, through after-school, parent advocacy, and other programs. We are seeking a qualified, Vietnamese bilingual-bicultural candidate to direct our EASE (Educational Assistance for Student Empowerment) after-school program and summer program, which serves over 150 students each year.

Title: EASE After-School Program Director

Major Responsibilities:
A. Maintain an organized and successful after-school and summer program (75%). This includes such responsibilities as:
1 . Develop and implement policies and procedures for programs
2 . Create, maintain, and update Policy and Procedure Manual as needed
3 . Create and oversee implementation of an ongoing student recruitment plan, including development of an annual recruitment and quarterly activity plans, development and distribution of program marketing materials, presentations to targeted organizations, and ensuring a presence at key community events, etc.
4 . Recruit, train, and supervise team of program tutors and other staff
5 . Recruit, train, and supervise team of program volunteers and service learners.
6 . Supervise a 1.0 FTE Service Learning Coordinator working with high school volunteers
7 . Plan and implement program activities
8 . Develop and implement program assessment plan
9 . Work with Executive Director and other staff to ensure financial sustainability of programs, including
preparing invoices, and researching and writing grants
1 0 . Attend meetings to increase knowledge of best practices of successful tutoring programs
1 1 . Prepare and distribute program updates and reports as required
B. Work with other VFA staff to ensure success of VFA as a whole (15%). This includes:
1 . Assist other VFA programs as needed
2 . Coordination of fundraising and other VFA events
3 . General office maintenance duties
C. Uphold and enhance the image of VFA as an effective organization (10%). This includes:
1 . Develop and manage relationships with schools, school districts, and other organizations
2 . Represent VFA and its programs at community meetings, events, and committees

Reports to: Executive Director

Duration: 9/8/2010- 8/31/2011 with possibility of extension depending on job performance and availability of funding.

Status: Full-time exempt

Compensation: $28,000 to $33,000 DOE

Minimum Qualifications:
• BA, preferably in education or social work related field
• 2+ years of experience in the field of after-school program/youth development work
• Proficiency in written and spoken Vietnamese
• Skills in program planning, implementation, evaluation, training, and supervision
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills
• US citizen or lawful permanent resident
• Transportation, WA driver’s license, insurance
• Agree to take, and pass, WA background check
