Do you want to help build a stronger, more unified voice for the Vietnamese community of Seattle?
The Vietnamese Friendship Association is launching the Community Action Research & Empowerment (CARE) Project, a participatory research effort designed to bring the community together and assess the strengths and needs of the Vietnamese people in Southeast Seattle. We’re looking for the best of the best Vietnamese youth in the Seattle community to join our Youth Action Team.
Some YAT activities include:
- Networking with businesses, elders, and prominent members of the Vietnamese community
- Participate in shaping a vision for the Vietnamese community
- Attend trainings – leadership, PAR, community analysis, GIS, social injustice, etc.
- Community mapping – photojournalism, gather statistics, research
- Form surveys and collect data – interview elders, businesses, families, etc
- Compile data – learn different ways of organizing data, focus groups, reports, etc
- Host a community forum – obtain feedback, compare data
- Help Vietnamese community prioritize issues and necessities
- Help develop a 3-5 year community plan
This is a part-time service position (approximately 10 hours per week, including Saturdays) which pays $2300 over the next 10-11 months. After completing 400 hours of service, you will receive $1,000 as an educational bonus. Overnight retreats and attendance at major events are mandatory. Serious inquiries only!
